A "signature event" in the town, the 8th annual Penn Valley Daffodil Run, is expecting more than 450 people to participate Sunday at Western Gateway Park, says race director Joan Bumpus.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. Sunday. Pick up pre-registered packet Friday at Penn Valley Chamber office (2-6 p.m.) and Saturday at Empire Shoes in Grass Valley. Fees for the run are $25, $15 for children 12 and under; fees for the walk are $20, $10 for kids 12 and under.

Then the events start at 8:30 a.m. with a free run for children 10 and under inside the park. The 5k walk/ run and 10k run leave Western Gateway Park to commence running along the roads; one lane of Spenceville Road will be closed.

A $500 prize goes to the Penn Valley school with the most entrants signing up in support of the school. The remaining proceeds are shared by the three presenters, Penn Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, Penn Valley Rotary Club and Penn Valley Hi Graders Lions for their community projects.

The Daffodil Run is the first in the Gold Country Grand Prix series of 12 races.

Go online at www.daffodilrun.com or contact Bumpus at 432-9102 or jbumpus@comast.net for more information.
