On Monday, Grass Valley officials will learn more about what they must do to prepare for growth at the southern end of town.
A public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at City Hall to review for council members the city's growth guidelines and policies, plans for improvements for traffic and utilities and the status of three developments in that area, city Community Development Director Joe Heckel said Thursday.
Northstar and SouthHill Village housing and business developments have been on the city's horizon for several years, arousing controversy about growth and traffic. Berriman Ranch, south of Kmart along Highway 49, recently joined the list of projects waiting for approval to develop. They and others would provide more housing, some jobs and income for the city, but also would require expenditures for public services and infrastructure and increase traffic.
The public meeting will review a study to build an interchange at Highway 49 and Crestview Drive and Smith Road, and extend Crestview into developing areas. It also will review improvements to the interchange at McKnight Way.
The developments are in the city's sphere of influence and are scheduled to be annexed by 2020, under the terms of the city's 2020 General Plan.
