One Nevada County store was snared for selling alcohol to minors in a recent state and county decoy operation.
A 39-year-old employee of the Chicago Park Store was cited for selling to an undercover minor on Saturday, according to Sheriff Keith Royal. A complaint will be forwarded to the district attorney's office for possible prosecution.
The sting was done in conjunction with the state Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, which will seek separate sanctions on the business, Royal said.
Six other stores that were approached denied liquor to the decoy. Those stores were: Penn Valley Taco Shell, Tom's Sierra Chevron on Pleasant Valley Road, Holiday Market in Penn Valley, Express Mart on Alta Street just outside Grass Valley, the Cedar Ridge Country Store and the Corner Store on LaBarr Meadows Road.
The Sheriff's Office and the ABC do the decoy operation periodically to make sure businesses are not selling alcohol to minors.
In February, nine stores denied a decoy alcohol, but five sold to the undercover youth. Last October, clerks at three stores were cited for selling liquor to minors, while five refused to make the sale.
