Kylie Miraldi and Sara McAtee, Nevada Union High School volleyball players.
Even though she'd been competing on the varsity volleyball courts since her freshman season, Sarah McAtee said she got a late start in the recruiting process.
McAtee still landed a full-ride scholarship to play volleyball at San Jose State University next fall, but in the process she learned that most athletes start on the recruiting trail much earlier.
And now, through her senior project, McAtee hopes to help other NU athletes get a head start.

And now, through her senior project, McAtee hopes to help other NU athletes get a head start.
She will host a discussion on the topic at 7 p.m. today at NUHS' Room E-16.
"I didn't start the recruiting process until my junior year," she said. "Realistically, I should have started my freshman year.
"Because I started so late, I don't think I had as many opportunities as I could have had."

McAtee said her talk will include an overview of the process, including recruiting rules, a timeline for each high school year and strategies to help athletes market their skills for prospective college programs.
"I've been doing a lot of research and look forward to sharing what I've learned with other athletes," she said.
For more information on today's discussion, please call McAtee at 575-1524.
