Nevada City planning commissioner and local lawyer Robert Bergman announced Monday he is running for City Council in Nevada City.
Bergman joins Reinette Senum, co-founder of PowerUp-NC, as one of two residents announcing their intentions to run for City Council. Three council seats will be up for election in the June 3 primary.
The local lawyer's announcement comes as speculation grows as to whether incumbents Councilman David McKay and Mayor Sally Harris will seek re-election.
Councilman Steve Cottrell announced late last summer that he would not run again.
McKay and Harris, who haven't announced their intentions, have until Friday to file their candidacy papers.
Bergman described himself as someone who has the "necessary experience, skills and temperament to be an effective council member."
Updating city design guidelines and considering how new building materials and modern construction techniques fit in the design guidelines are among Bergman's goals, according to his press statement. He also said he'll work to reduce the city's energy usage, if elected.
