Studio II used to showcase local artists, but when it closed a few years ago, the talented troupe of Nevada County residents who filled its walls with their works no longer had a venue.
Sunday they resurrected their efforts at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley with a show entitled "11 Artists, 11 Perspectives," with photography, paintings, sculpture and jewelry.
"I really like Susan Michalski's work," said artist Eileen Blodgett of Nevada City, admiring the artwork of the acrylic and watercolor painter. "She's always challenging herself."
Nearby, George Cloud of Nevada City, also an artist, was admiring the black and white photography of Leslie Elias.

"It's good to see these people have another venue after they lost their gallery," said Cloud, before losing himself again in Elias' landscapes.
"I do a ton of color work, but I decided to present my black and white stuff here," said Elias, a portrait photographer.
"We had a wonderful gallery for many years, and this group said 'Let's figure out other venues to show our work.'"
Looking around at the large crowd inside the arts center, she said, "I'm sure we'll keep doing it. I love to see the evolution of these artists."
Sunday's show is one of 18 put on during the year by Susan Barry, the curator of the arts center's gallery. Most of the shows have Sunday receptions for the artists.

"It gives them the opportunity to go through the process of putting on a show and then they get to see their artwork on the wall," Barry said. "If they sell anything, we get 20 percent to help pay for the lights."
The show allowed Tom Devine of Nevada City to display his landscape oil paintings.
"I've been painting all my life pretty much," Devine said. "I do a lot of drawing and at the moment, outdoor painting."
Also featured at the show, which will be displayed until March 3 is:
Wanda Avery, watercolor.
