Great happenings tonight, the night of love, in Nevada City: Catch the Irish jam at the Stonehouse Restaurant - it gets going around 6:30 and is free (remember, this jam takes place every second and fourth Thursday of the month). Also the salsa dance is set for Miners Foundry. Something to try with your Valentine: See if it is true that women blink nearly twice as much as men.
Still on a Valentine theme, although not on the day itself, is the DeadBeats dance Friday at the foundry and the poetry reading on Feb. 21 at the Off Center Stage, "Four Ways to Heartbreak."
The house was packed at the Robben Ford Trio and Perry Mills Project concert last Thursday - standing room only. Fabulous playing, but real loud, though; guess I'm more of an acoustic kind of gal. Ford lost out to Eric Clapton for the Grammy, by the way.
In one of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books (one about everlasting love and such), a 9-year-old's answer to the question, "What Would You Do on a First Date That Was Turning Sour?" was pretty funny: "I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns." Ever think of doing that yourself?
Have been hearing talk about Mardi Gras being scheduled later in the month next year, perhaps on Presidents Day weekend, making it a three-day holiday for many, hopefully not one of inclement weather.
Alasdair Fraser's Sierra Fiddle Camp this June in Nevada City has Feb. 15 as its priority postmark deadline. Go online at
www.sierrafiddlecamp.org for more information. Fraser willbe playing in Grass Valley April 26 at the veterans hall.
Go to
www.gadling.com/2008/02/01/best-prank-ever-stopping-time-at-grand-central-station/ for some interesting performance art in Grand Central Station, NYC.
Lastly, if you want to submit something to Prospector, please ask for the guidelines to do it properly. Thanks.
