Fire personnel are investigating the cause of a fire on the 11000 block of Newtown Road that destroyed a single family home.
No one was hurt in the fire, reported at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, said Grass Valley Fire Department Battalion Chief Tom Browning.
“We arrived to find flames coming out of the roof,” he said.
The homeowner, Mark Wyatt, told firefighters his wife Rhonda Wyatt and their small child were not home at the time, Nevada County Sheriff’s Capt. Ron Smith said.
“(Mark Wyatt) said he took the child to school and came home to find us,” Browning said.
The wet winter weather aided in preventing the fire from spreading to any nearby brush or other buildings, Browning said.
“The house is a total loss,” he said. “The roof completely burned to the floor and everything inside burned.”
About 25 fire personnel, plus five engines and three water tenders responded from Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, Nevada City Fire Department, Grass Valley Fire Department, Ophir Hill Fire Protection District and Penn Valley Fire Protection District.
Investigators are actively searching for the cause of the fire, Browning said.
Mark Wyatt could not offer any theories as to the fire’s cause, Browning said.
