A 55-year-old Graniteville man is in jail after he told a deputy he had "crank" in his jacket pocket, the sheriff said Friday.
A Nevada County Sheriff's deputy saw the man, Albert Violette, driving his blue Ford diesel pickup truck Thursday night on a fire road off of Tyler Foote Crossing Road with a blue aluminum can in his hand, Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said.
The deputy stopped the truck, and Violette poured the contents of the can - a Milwaukee's Best beer can - onto the ground and threw it into the back of his truck, Royal said.
The deputy asked to search the truck and Violette gave him permission, he said.
Inside the truck next to the driver's seat was a partially opened bottle of "Hot Damn" liquor and some more unopened beer cans, Royal said.
When the deputy asked if he would find anything illegal in his search, Violette told him, "I've got some crank in my pocket," Royal said.
In Violette's left jacket pocket, the deputy found a large wad of $20 bills - about $1300 total - wrapped around a small baggie of methamphetamine.
The deputy arrested Violette on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and transportation of a controlled substance for sale.
The man was not charged with having an open container while driving because the drug charges are more severe, Royal said.
"He's got worse problems with the drug charges," he said.
Violette's bail was set at $25,000, jail staff reported.
