It is time to stop running syndicated columnist Mike Reagan in your newspaper. His column of Dec. 31, 2007, was factually incorrect and outrageously offensive. It was not the reasoned and civil discourse that we have come to expect from your paper. His column opened with the statement that "... when it comes to the war on terrorism, the Democrats are so terribly wrong-headed that they constitute a serious threat to the security of the American people - that's you and me."
Hold the phone, Mike! This is not true. I'm a Democrat and I am not a threat to security. The Democrats in Congress are not a threat to security. They have voted time and again to support President Bush's anti-terror programs, at home and abroad.
Mike Reagan's baseless and inflammatory rhetoric is the kind that is poisoning our political life. As we enter another electoral season, I hope that we can discuss the substantive issues that matter to us without resorting to his kind of accusation that our opponents are unpatriotic or "a serious threat to the security of the American people."
Please stop printing Mike Reagan before he goes over the edge again.
