Tanya Copeland scored 18 points and sank 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to help seal Bear River's 50-43 victory over Folsom Tuesday in the first round of the Oak Ridge's eight-team Trojan Shootout.
The Bruins (5-3) led most of the contest until Folsom took a one-point lead with two minutes remaining. But Copeland and Jocelyn Fry, who hit two free throws, converted 7-of-8 from the charity stripe for the win.
Talore Spencer scored eight points, along with eight points each from Jocelyn and Melanie Fry. Annie Osterholt had 12 rebounds in the win, while Ariel Miller and had eight boards. Chandré Uno totaled four assists and four steals for the Bruins.
Bear River is back in action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, facing the winner of Tuesday's Oak Ridge/Rio Linda matchup.
JV: Folsom 36, Bear River 31, OT
A trio of Bruins scored seven points each, but Bear River's junior varsity fell short of Folsom in overtime, 36-31, in the Trojan Shootout.
Willa Davis, Lindsey Harter and Kelsey Uno each totaled seven points for Bear River, which slipped to 2-6 on the season.
Frosh: Folsom 38, Bear River 26
Bear River's freshmen fell short of Folsom 38-26 Tuesday.
Kyanne Hagar had nine points for Bear River, while Amanda Hanaway had six points and Gianna Kaspar scored five.
