Gregory Cox, 62, of Sutter, expects to walk out of Nevada County today in the third of what he plans as a 100-day hike to Chicago.

Cox has written a book about his vision for renewing America's foundation in free enterprise and democracy, starting with a publicly owned self-insurance company. He hopes his walk will catch the attention of Oprah Winfrey, he said.

Corporate responsibility to shareholders rather than the larger public has created a "system out of balance," he said.

"Everybody becomes involved in the resources of our nation" in Cox's vision that would extend to banking, food and clothing, health care and education.

Cox started Monday in Marysville. His book, "Schizophrenic Rescue," can be ordered at www.dragon publishing.net or through major booksellers.
