California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Air Tanker 100 from Chico Air Attack Base dropping on the Ivy fire Sunday afternoon in the San Juan Ridge area.
An early afternoon fire in the North San Juan Fire District Monday briefly threatened homes and charred 10 acres of meadowland.
The fire, which started about noon behind Rose Hill Court, was contained in less than two hours, said Boyd Johnson, North San Juan Fire chief. A lawn mower spark started the fire, he said.
No evacuations were needed, but we were close (to ordering people to leave), said Rob Paulus, battalion chief with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Three homes and one farm building were threatened, Paulus said.
The threatened homes were on Rose Hill Court and Sauer Lane, he said. The fire came to within 20 feet of the farm structure.
Calfire and U.S. Forest Service helicopters dropped water on the conflagration, Johnson said. Several other fire departments from the unincorporated area responded but werent needed, he added.
The fire could have been avoided, Paulus said.
The right time to mow your lawn is early morning, not late morning or early afternoon, when there is 16 percent humidity outside, Paulus said.
People should be inside drinking lemonade on these 100 degree days, not mowing their lawn, Johnson said.
