Nevada County Motor Spots: McClure finishes out front



Burney McClure of Nevada City drove to a first-place finish the A feature of the Pure Stocks division at Placerville Speedway Aug. 11.

After taking second place behind Mike McClure, also of Nevada City, in Heat #2, Burney McClure turned the tables in the feature by leaving Mike McClure behind to finish fourth.

On the season, though, it's Mike McClure within shot of first place of the driver's standings. He currently ranks third, 17 points behind leader Jason Englund of Citrus Heights.

Burney McClure ranks ninth in the season standings, although he has made just seven starts this year in comparison to the 12 starts by the leading drivers in the standings.



Civil War Series

After winning heat three, Colfax's Colby Wiesz was ready to reel in points leader Andy Forsberg of Auburn in the A feature of the California Sprint Car Civil War Series at Calistoga Speedway on Aug. 11.

But Wiesz wound up in 15th place, eight spots back of Forsberg, who now holds a 29 point lead over Wiesz in the season standings.

Mark Hall of Grass Valley finished 18th in the A feature, after a fourth-place run in his heat.

The Civil War Series returns to action Sept. 5 at the Silver Dollar Speedway with the Pacific Sprint Cup Invitational.



Wingless Sprints

Back at Placerville on Saturday, Brandon Davis of Rohnert Park put some space between himself and his top competitors in the Wingless Sprints driver standings, winning the A feature.

Davis owns a 31 point lead over Matt Streeter of Lathrop and a 51 points margin over Cody Myers of Browns Valley. Myers took seventh place in the A feature, after winning Heat #2. Mason Myers, also of Browns Valley, finished 20th in the A feature after a second place finish in Heat #3.

Jay Youngman of Grass Valley finished sixth in the B feature, after taking third place in Heat #1. Brett Youngman, also of Grass Valley, finished seventh in Heat #2.

Jay Youngman currently standings in fourth place, 73 points behind Davis, the season leader.



Pro Stocks

Nevada City's Dan Brown Jr. continues to hold onto third place in the Pro Stocks division after placing fifth in the A feature Saturday at Placerville Speedway.

Brown, who took fifth in the only heat race of the night for Pro Stocks, is 28 points behind leader Marek Bernet of Orangevale in the season standings.

Silver Dollar Speedway (Chico)

Points race No. 20: 410 Sprints, Wingless Sprints, Dirt Modifieds, Pure Stocks. Pits open 4 p.m., gates open 6 p.m., qualifying 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for Juniors/Seniors and $4 for children.

Saturday

Marysville Raceway Park

Sprints, Wingless sprints, Dwarf cars, Sprint 100s. Pits open at 3 p.m. Gates at 5 p.m. Racing starts at 7 p.m.

Placerville Speedway

Point race No. 15: "Kids Bike Night." 360 Sprints, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks. Pits open 3:30 p.m., gates open 5 p.m., qualifying 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $11 for adults, $9 for Juniors/Seniors and $4 for children.

All-American Speedway (Roseville)

SRS, Modifieds, Bombers, Mini-stocks, WSRA. Gates open at 2 p.m. Racing starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for juniors (ages 6-11) and children under the age of six are admitted free.
