Local musician Aaron Ross hits the charts

The album of Grass Valley musician Aaron Ross, “Shapeshifter,” just debutted at No. 12 on college radio chart CMJ in the category of recordings added by radio stations, a local producer said Thursday.

"This is exciting news," said Marc Snegg, CEO of Grass Roots Record Co. in Grass Valley. “His first week out, ...28 stations (nationwide) added his album. Looks good.”

Feedback on the recording has been “glowing,” and he expects to see a lot more movement on it in coming weeks, Snegg said.

Ross, who earns his living as a butcher, has performed with the band Hella. He just returned from a very successful five-week West Coast tour with Grass Roots and expects to tour nationwide this fall, Snegg said.

Ross will throw his album release party at Miners Foundry in Nevada City on July 26. Tickets are available in advance at the foundry and at the door. For more information, call 265-5040 or visit grassrootsrecordco.com and click on “artists.”
