A Nevada County man wanted by police on two warrants is in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase in Penn Valley.

Police wanted Shawn Curtis Eddy, 39, for two warrants for failing to appear in court on a stolen vehicle charge after he had been released from jail on his own recognizance.

"He has had a wide variety of experiences with law enforcement," Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said. "He's had a long history."

Eddy allegedly was traveling east on Valley Drive at 11:10 p.m. Monday when a deputy in an unmarked car spotted him and turned on his flashing lights and sirens. Eddy allegedly would not stop.

The deputy gave chase. His speedometer had reached 80 miles per hour, yet he was starting to lose Eddy, who was driving a green Pontiac Firebird, according to the officer's report.

A sheriff's sergeant placed spike strips along the road near Rough and Ready Highway.

"(Eddy) hit it and blew his tires and kept going," Royal said.

Eddy turned right onto Rough and Ready Highway, driving in the opposing lane for more than 100 yards, Royal said.

Eddy turned right on Highway 20, lost control of his car, shot across the highway and crashed.

Police searched the vehicle, Royal said, and they allegedly found two crank pipes with residue. One was in the vehicle's center console, and one on the floorboard.

There was also a commercial license plate with a green 1996 registration sticker on it, the same color as 2007 registration stickers.

Eddy was arrested on suspicion of recklessly evading a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to appear on a felony charge and failure to appear release on own recognizance. He was booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and is being held without bail.
