The first snow of the season for Nevada County's lower elevations caused havoc early Thursday as commuters struggled to get children to school and to work on time.
"It's a mess everywhere," California Highway Patrol Officer Randy Corbett said. The four or five patrol officers on duty were "running around from spin-out to spin out."
Here are some accident reports from Grass Valley Police Department, Nevada County Sheriff's Office and the CHP:
• At 8:17 a.m., numerous callers reported an injured deer in the roadway on Pleasant Valley Road near Lake Wildwood Drive. Sheriff's deputies responded, as CHP officer were busy tending to accidents.
• At 8:28 a.m., a caller from Idaho-Maryland Road reported a vehicle went into a snowbank and was blocking traffic. The CHP responded.
• At 9:45 a.m., vehicles were spinning out on Lake Vera Road at Rock Creek Road, both of which were unplowed.
• At 9:58 a.m., a collision involving two vehicles blocked Brunswick Road at Woodrose Way. Tow trucks were called.
• At 9:59 a.m., three vehicles were blocking the roadway on Highway 49 at Broad Street in Nevada City. None of the vehicles had chains.
• At 10:23 a.m., there was a collision on North Bloomfield and Graniteville roads at Sugar Loaf Mountain Road. No one was hurt.
• At 10:28 a.m., a vehicle hit a pole or tree on You Bet Road.
• At 10:37 a.m., several vehicles were blocking the roadway on Highway 49 at the Willo due to spin-outs.
• At 11:39 a.m., a Toyota Tercel became stuck in the snow on East Bennett Road just east of Northstar Place. Fisher's Towing was called, and because drivers were busy with other incidents, the estimated time of arrival was 90 minutes.
• At 11:55 a.m., the CHP responded to a non-injury accident on Pasquale Road and Red Dog Road.
• At 12:21 p.m., a green Ford Expedition went off the road at Highway 20 just west of Washington Road. The fire department and CHP responded, and no one was injured.
