Rural home fire safety advice offered free

Print Comment
Free advice is now available to Nevada County residents interested in creating defensible space to protect their home from wildfire.

The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County has volunteers trained to help you understand the critical factors which determine home survival. Issues such as defensible space, emergency response time, landscaping and construction techniques play important roles.

Advisors educate residents one-on-one and provide valuable tools to help assess your property to provide solutions. A comprehensive packet of information provides referrals to additional resource professionals who may help design your project, licensed contractors who specialize in fuel reduction work, and specific hardware to assist in marking vegetation for bid proposal pricing.

The program is funded through a grant by the Bureau of Land Management and offers the advisory visit to 500 county residents. To learn more about the program, sign up for a visit or volunteer, contact the council at 530-272-1122.
