NCTV considers making climate change series

Print Comment
NCTV is developing the idea of a TV series on climate change, according to Executive Director Lew Sitzer.

The concept of the series is at its "gestation period," Sitzer said.

"I'm an educator and (climate change) seems to be the largest issue facing us as a society and as a citizen of the planet," Sitzer said. "I think there is more and more research coming out on weather change. It seems to be an issue concerning scientists and citizens. So I think it is important to educate the community."

He does not know, at this point, how many episodes of which the series would consist, Sitzer said.

"It is a very complex subject," he said. "There's been a lot of questions raised. We will look into the questions."

The topic of the series will be discussed at a meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 11, 2007, at the NCTV classroom. The meeting is open to the public.

"We'll define themes depending on what we uncover in our research," Sitzer said. "Some of them will be local (themes) like snowpack and water quality. Some of them will be larger issues like disease control."

About 20 adults have already signed up to volunteer to help put together the series, Sitzer said. They would do research, report and offer technical help in producing the show.

NCTV has recently posted more than a 100 shows on its Web site. One can visit www.nevadacountytv.org and download the shows for free. Having a DSL or faster Internet connection is necessary, Sitzer said.
