Georgie Coulter
Georgie Coulter
Georgie A. Coulter, 77, is a retired secondary teacher who has lived in Nevada County for the past 35 years.

If elected, Coulter wants to address a wide range of issues, including the curriculum, the problem of drug abuse and parking issues on school campuses.
“(I would put) more emphasis on vocational training,” Coulter said. “ (I’d address the drug issue) through a strong connection with the police and agencies who control the drug problem. That includes the Juvenile Justice Commission of which I am a member.”

Coulter said along with the emphasis on basic subjects like English, math, and history, schools should also support arts, crafts and drama.

Besides teaching in secondary schools in northern and southern California for 34 years, Coulter has served on three school boards — eight years in Union Hill, eight years on the Nevada County Board of Education, and three years at Mt. St. Mary’s School. She has also been actively involved in several volunteer organizations like the Senior Center, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and several church ministries.

Coulter has a master’s degree in English from the University of Oregon and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Idaho. She also has a credential in special education from the California State University in Sacramento.

As a candidate, Coulter said she has “many, many years of experience of working with young people, and just a general deep interest in education, and many years in the county as a volunteer.”
