Jim Adams, 51, wants to recruit new teachers and expand the curriculum if he is elected.

Adams is the regional vice president for The Ray Morgan Company in Nevada City.
“This is the end of a very attractive retirement program for the teachers and administrators,” Adams said. “As such, I believe that up to 30 percent of the current teachers may be retiring at the end of this school year.

“Recruiting new teachers and ensuring the strong standard of education in the Nevada Joint Union High School District will demand strong leadership by the board.”

Adams also expressed his ability to provide the necessary leadership.
“I have served as a board member of United Way, am actively involved in my church, have represented my 49er Rotary Club on numerous assignments and am a successful businessman,” he said.

“I believe that these attributes as well as my desire to focus on the education of our youth will make me an effective board member.”

Adams is involved with Nevada Union in a number of ways. Besides being the parent of a sophomore son who goes to NU, Adams is an advisor for the school Interact Club and a booster for the basketball and football programs.

He also is a commentator on television for the NU basketball and football games.
“I have had the opportunity to get to know both the students and teachers,” Adams said. “I also have a close relationship with administrators at the school district and understand the roles of a successful board.”

Adams is the former president and education committee chairman of the Western Office Machines Dealers Association. He has a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish, with a minor in speech communication from San Jose State University.
