Mary Anne Davis, 45, is a certified radio marketing consultant at KNCO/Star 94.1. She wants to improve the process of hiring teachers in the high school district.
“I’m concerned about the teacher hiring process,” said Davis, a Nevada County resident since 1987. “We are going to be losing 35 to 50 high school teachers by June 2007 due to retirement. It is critical that we hire the best teachers possible and track their performance closely, to be sure we only keep the top level teachers.”
Davis said she knows the needs of students and parents in the high school district because her younger son is a freshman at Nevada Union. Her elder son graduated from NU in 2004.
Davis has worked as a credentials specialist in the Department of Education and student teaching at California State University in Chico. She also was a technical writer at Grass Valley Group and a marketing director at Sonic Technology Products.
Her community service includes serving on the Board of Directors for Twin Cities Concert Association, and spending three years on the steering committee for Relay for Life, a local fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
“I have been on the board of local nonprofits and have a business degree and a lot of business experience because running a school district is like running a business,” Davis said. “I just have a desire to do what’s best for the kids. They all deserve a great education — that is the bottom line.”
