Martin Harmon is the public works senior engineering inspector for the city of Lincoln. He’s also the vice president of the board of directors for Western Care Construction in Rocklin, and Manager of Gold Country Ranch in Nevada County.

If elected to the Sierra College board of trustees, Harmon wants to reinforce fiscal responsibility and accountability, besides a number of other issues.

“We have to prioritize our finances, doing more with less, making sure that are classrooms are in good working order,” he said. “We have to make sure that our academic and vocational programs are meeting local job opportunities, getting our students ready for the ever-increasing demands of our nation’s economy. It is also critical that we prepare students for their next step which is their four year college or university.”

Harmon’s former work experience includes being the consulting engineering inspector for the city of Lincoln, the consulting engineering inspector for Placer County Water Agency, and the owner and general engineering contractor with Harmon Underground Construction.

“My background in engineering and construction and my vast knowledge of California’s contract licensing laws gives me the ability to ensure that our Sierra College campuses districtwide will be in good repair and working order,” Harmon said.

“As a businessman, and as a vice-president of a corporation that gives health care to many people, I will always exercise sound business judgment. I pledge to listen to and work with students, instructors, and staff to make sure that our board policy meets their needs.

“I will also keep partisan politics out of the Sierra College school board because it has no place in a school board. I have not sought any political endorsements, monies, or any kind of support (for my election campaign).”

Harmon lives in Grass Valley with his wife of 17 years and three children.
