Nevada County Public Defender Tom Anderson and Grass Valley attorney Ray Shine are vying for the judicial seat in Nevada County Superior Court left vacant by retiring Judge Carl Bryan II.
The two candidates were finalists in a six-person runoff in June, one of the closest races in the primary election.
Anderson has 23 years of experience as a courtroom attorney and was a judge pro tem for the San Francisco Municipal Court and Contra Costa County Municipal Court, as well as an administrative law judge pro tem for the Office of Administrative Hearings.
He lives in Nevada City with his wife and two daughters.
Shine is an active member of local government, education and charitable communities and has practiced civil, family, juvenile and criminal law in Nevada County for 33 years. He’s run his own law firm for more than 25 years.
Shine lives in Grass Valley with his wife, Amy. The couple has three daughters: Jamie, 26, Molly, 7, and Sarah, 5.
Both are endorsed by local residents, business people and high-profile current and former public officials.
