Adult Sports Report

Club hosts tennis tourney

Tennis players age 13 to 80 gathered at Club Sierra last weekend to compete in a combined-age doubles tournament.

"It was a weekend of good tennis, great sportsmanship and great fun," said Greg Cicatelli, tennis pro at Club Sierra.

Each team had a combined age of 90-years plus, with the majority of participants competing in the mixed doubles tournament.

Winner in Men's Doubles were Mike Parker and Harry Stewart. Larry and Nancy King took first place in the Mixed Doubles Tournament.

Consolation winners were Lori Nilson and partner Rick Cullen, along with Dick and Carole Carson.



Softball champs crowned

The Western Nevada County Recreation Services Softball program closed out the Coed and Women's 2006 season this past week.

Power Unlimited held true to its name and holds the bragging rights to as the 2006 Coed champions. Century 21/Davis Reality has a new second place trophy to display as well.

The Power Unlimited women have double bragging rights as they were victorious over the Grass Valley Glass gals Tuesday night wrapping up the 2006 women's division season.



NU senior top female

Mallory Meier, a senior at Nevada Union, competed in a 5K run at South Lake Tahoe on Oct. 1.

The 5K was the final event of the Lake Tahoe Marathon week. Meier, who is also on the varsity tennis team, plays varsity soccer, and played varsity volleyball last year, reportedly set a new course record.

Meier was the first female finisher on the new 5K course, running a personal record time of 23.44. This was the fourth race this year in which Meier has run, also including the Daffodil Run, The No Excuses 5K, and the Fourth of July 5 miler.



Club champions honored

Nevada County Country club recently held its Mr. & Mrs. Club Championship tournament, and the winning couple was Gary and Mary Deardorff, with a best-ball total of 55.

Second place went to Butch and Cathy Fouyer with a 56. Daryl and Shirley Matlock were third with a 57, while Harland and Nancy Williams finished fourth with a 58.

The teams of Brian Powers and Pat Tintle, Jim and Shirley Rockwell, Louie and Marian Slayton and Mel and Pat Gaddis each shot a 59 to tie for fifth place.
