Nevada Irrigation District approves line extension plan

The Nevada Irrigation District this week approved a pilot policy designed to help finance and install treated water line extensions to existing neighborhoods.

The board also selected a pilot project, on Hoskin Lane near Auburn, where seven property owners are seeking NID connections.

The pilot policy is a part of the NID board's top strategic plan goal of supplying water to areas of the district where it is not yet available. It allows the district to finance pipeline extensions and then recoup its investment over time from those property owners who receive the benefit.

In other business, directors:

• Authorized a second pilot policy under which some property owners near NID pipelines can connect to the system on a temporary basis without having to pay for a mainline extension.

• Approved a new shoreline management plan for Combie Reservoir, increased permit fees for private docks on the public reservoir from $135 to $175, and adopted a $100 fee for violation of the Combie dock permit program. A second violation carries a $250 penalty and a third could mean dock removal.

• Hosted retirement presentations for Operations Crew Supervisor Ken Jaynes, of North San Juan, who is completing a 29-year career with the district; Senior Hydroelectric Operator Dan Crosby, of Nevada City, a 24-year employee; and Hydroelectric Generation Supervisor Tom Thurn, of Grass Valley, who has been with NID for 23 years.
