Woman dies, leaves four cats: Anna Drummond of Pet Adoption league is concerned because a local resident died recently, leaving behind four older cats which now need homes. Anna says, "A long time PAL volunteer died recently and left behind her four indoor cats. The cats are 16 years, 12 years, 11 years and 8 years old. Because all are seniors, it's harder to place them, but perhaps if people see this in your column, perhaps some folks will step forward to help these cats. All are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, have been well cared for and loved. They will receive vet checks this week and be ready for adoption this weekend. Their guardian was a very gentle soul so I'm sure her cats will reflect that." PAL can be reached at 273-7958.
Carpet cleaner scam: I wrote about this a couple days ago and got a call from a woman in a rural part of the county who had a "carpet cleaner" come to her door at 7 p.m. last Saturday night. He was pushy, she said, and handed her a paper which he then took back. She said he was driving a newer white pickup truck with a camper shell on the back, was blonde, about 25 and dressed nicely. So, be careful about opening your door and I don't think reputable carpet cleaners are soliciting door-to-door.
If My Body Were A Car ... : This came from readers Kent and Anna Rees.
"If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model.
"I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull, but that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it - almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!"
Thank you Cheryl Wicks! This public thank you was sent in by Judy and Jerry Wilson. "I would like to thank Cheryl Wicks for her effort and drive to bring us our new family member: Cody. I called a message number in the paper and within 12 hours, we were contacted by Cheryl. We were introduced to Cody (AKA Spencer) and fell in love with the little guy. We've had our Cody for almost four weeks and he has brought so much pleasure to our family. We would also like to thank the Foster Mother, Carolyn, for all her compassion and love with Cody. Our Cody is Yellow Lab/ Shar-pai with the sweetest disposition and a very inquisitive personality and well behaved. Thank you for saving Cody. We would just like NC community to know Sammie's Friends is a wonderful organization. Please send donations to Sammie's Friends c/o NC Shelter."
