Memorial services for Del Marie Whiting of Meridian, Idaho, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nevada City. Family graveside services will be held at Elm Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
Mrs. Whiting died Friday, Dec. 30, at home. She was 66.
She was born Dec. 15, 1939, in Grass Valley, to Russell and Dorothy Collins Asbaugh. She was raised in Grass Valley, and graduated from Nevada Union High School, where she was voted the friendliest girl and was head majorette. She married Ron Whiting on Sept. 6, 1959, at the Grass Valley Episcopal Church. They moved all over the western United States while her husband worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for the first 17 years of marriage. Their LDS sealing took place in the St. George Temple on Feb. 24, 1970. They returned to Grass Valley in 1983, where they lived until Ron's retirement in 2004 when they moved to Meridian, Idaho. She owned a cafe in Grass Valley. She also worked many years at H&R Block in Grass Valley as a tax preparer. She enjoyed traveling and having family visit their family home in Grass Valley and Meridian. She enjoyed cooking and cooking for the Boy Scouts at their summer camp, and helping others with wedding catering and other events. She also enjoyed serving in various church organizations, especially as they related to the youth.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; daughters and sons-in-law Keri and Reed Prince of McMinnville, Ore., Kelly and Brian Bready of American Fork, Utah; Kathy and Nefi Garcia of Henderson, Nev., Kasey and Jason Harmer of Highland, Utah; and Jamie and Jeffrey Giguiere of Mesa, Ariz.; son, Jeff Whiting of Roseburg, Ore.; 20 grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Judy Ashbaugh of Susanville; and brother, Ron Ashbaugh of Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Fred.
