There's a lot of ways that we feel we can make a difference in this coummunity as well as get results. In today's paper, we had a story about the county shelter being overrun by abandoned pets and the Women of Worth program that still had three disadvantaged families who needed to be "adopted" so their children could have a Merry Christmas. With that in mind, I thought I would share an e-mail that City Editor Brian Hamilton sent to our staff moments ago. After that note, you'll find an e-mail that Readership Editor Dixie Redfearn received today.
Brian's e-mail:
Trina is rounding up a follow story on the response the Women of Worth "angels" received, as well as the Animal Shelter and a few other organizations that report that they have been "overwhelmed" with local support over the past few weeks.
Of note, the Women of Worth's three families were "adopted" within hours of our story hitting the doorsteps this morning, and my wife was told by the shelter that their phone has been ringing since doors opened this morning -- which meant the black lab we were considering adopting was already gone by the time she called.
Just wanted to share how our paper is capable of making such an immediate impact in this community. Kind of makes you wonder what our upcoming meth and affordable housing coverage will do ...
Thanks,
Brian
