Private memorial services for Lawrence Johnson Lewis of Grass Valley will be conducted at home in Grass Valley.

Mr. Lewis died Wednesday, Sept. 14, at home. He was 69.

He was born Aug. 8, 1936, in New York, N.Y., to Sarah Johnson and William B. Lewis. He received a BA in economics from Bowdoin College in 1958, and graduated Cum Laude. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a lieutenant from 1958 to 1961. He married Lauren on Jan. 30, 1978, in Reno, Nev. He was a real estate broker/investor. From 1973 to 1984, he owned Century 21 Lewis-Steele Realtors with offices in Jackson, Pine Grove and Truckee, from 1986 to 1996 he owned the Orange Duck Wildlife Art and Gifts in Nevada City, and from 1995 to 2000 owned the Grass Valley Sears. From 1982 to 1983 he was the President of the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association, 1984 was president of the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce, and from 1986 to 1991 he was the director of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Regional Advertising Program, River Monitor and volunteer with SYRCL.

He is survived by his wife, Lauren A. Lewis of Grass Valley; son, Robert W. Lewis of Grass Valley; son and daughter-in-law William B. Lewis II and Mané Lewis of Pound Ridge, N.Y.; and granddaughters Tess, Sarah and Maddie Lewis all of Pound Ridge, N.Y.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
