Confused about which high-definition television set to buy? Don't know what VOD means? Still trying to program that old VCR?

Well, Barb Gonzalez of Cedar Ridge just might have the answers to your questions.

Gonzalez is the author of "The Home Electronics Survival Guide," a layman's manual that's designed to teach people the basics of technology and provide guidance on how to hook up electronics equipment.

But consumer electronics is a field that's always changing, so Gonzalez also publishes a newsletter on new developments (the next one is about video on demand) and has launched a Web site that ties it all together.

"My goal is to show people that technology is not as hard as they think it is," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez spent 12 years in the movie production business and several more years in retail electronics sales and training. "All of those years on the sales floor really taught me how to talk to people who don't understand technology," she said.

Her Web site, www.home-electronics-survival.com, provides tips, advice and how-to guides, such as five steps on how to purchase HDTV.

The book, which will be in stores in about six weeks, can be ordered on Gonzalez's Web site.
