Dr. Philip DiMare is the featured speaker in the Sunday afternoon lecture series hosted by the Nevada County Democratic Central Committee.
DiMare will talk on the influence of conservative Christianity on domestic and foreign policy decisions made by the current Bush administration, tracing the roots back to the 1740s.
DiMare lectures in the Humanities and History Departments of California State University, Sacramento. He holds degrees in psychology, philosophy, and religious studies and is currently working on two book projects.
The event is open to the public and will be held 3 p.m. at the party's headquarters at 134 Joerschke Drive in Grass Valley across the street from the BriarPatch Market. A $10 donation is requested.

Quarter horse trainer holds clinic
Al Dunning, trainer of 20 world champions in quarter horse competition will hold a clinic at 8 a.m., April 23 and 24, at Maple Leaf Stables in Penn Valley.
Dunning, of Scottsdale, Ariz., has shown and trained quarter horses and other breeds for more than 30 years. He was featured in numerous articles, authored the revised book "Reining," and produced numerous instructional video tapes.
Saturday's clinic will cover Basic Horsemanship, and developing horses from the Snaffle Bit, to the Hackamore and then the bridle. Sunday will be devoted to reining. Only 15 riders will be allowed to participate. Observers are welcome for $25 per day. Saturday's event will conclude with a barbecue dinner.

Special Sunday Mass for the Pope
St. Canice Parish will be having a mass Sunday in honor of Pope John Paul II.
A spokeswoman for the parish said all residents are welcome to the 9:30 a.m. service.
