What do golfers want for Christmas 2004?
Golfers know every year technology changes from club weight, size, shape, and even adding inserts to putters.
For the non-golfer in the family they hear every year "If you buy me this special driver I will get 20 more yards off the tee" or "If you get me this new putter my handicap will go down."
The nongolfers out there are always asking if this statement is true. I am going to tell you that to a certain degree it is true.
Golf is a mental game and you need to have a positive mind-set about your equipment.
So what's hot in 2005?
The list starts with the new Callaway Fusions, the Callaway Big Bertha irons for your premium player and Tour Edge J-Max for a more economical choice.
The drivers and fairway woods are also staying consistent with most people wanting to hit the Callaway ERC Fusions. Its head design blends the best elements of titanium and carbon composite material into an exciting new mixture. This driver is new and man it is long!
What about wedges?
With a wedge in your hand you can either add or drop strokes quickly. The new wedges that people are asking for in our shop are the Wilson Harmonized. These wedges come in four lofts and three different finishes. They have also been around nearly a century of Tour competition.
For you putter enthusiasts. Wilson looks like the way to go in 2005. Over the past three years the main putter I have sold has been the Odyssey White Hot 2 Ball, but this holiday season people are asking about the KC putters.
What are the KC putters?
Putter designer Kirk Currie has teamed up with the Wilson Company to design the new 2005 KC line of putters. Not only do the KC putters have great designs but they have a unique interchangeable weight system, which allows players to adjust the weight of both the shaft and the sole of the putter head, creating a better individual fit and delivering a truer, more accurate putt.
What about the 30 different types of golf balls?
The ball I have switched to, which is the newest ball on the market, is the Wilson TX4. This ball is a four piece ball with a urethane cover and pan-handle dimples and to me it feels better than the Titleist Pro V1.
The TX4 by Wilson is so new that your shop may not carry it yet, which means my next choice would be the Callaway HX Tour.
All of the above choices are not from any formal study, but more the personal view of this PGA professional and from the selling trends I have seen in the Lake of the Pines golf shop.
After reading this article if you have any questions, please contact your local golf professional or myself at Lake of the Pines.
