The Nevada County Green Party hosts its next monthly general meeting Monday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Madelyn Helling Library Community Room, Highway 49 and Maidu Avenue in Nevada City.

The meeting will be a forum to discuss the candidates and pieces of legislation being brought before California voters on Nov. 2. Attendees are asked to bring ballot information with them. Party officials will offer handouts and recommendations.

The public is invited to attend the free event. Refreshments will be served.



'Good Grief' program set

The Sierra Nevada Cancer Center is now offering a "Good Grief" program to help children aged 6 through 12 deal with the death of a loved one.

The program is part of the ongoing "Kidscope" series, and will be held on consecutive Tuesdays from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

Jeanine Bryant, children's program coordinator for the Cancer Center, said the program uses creative art, clay and play to help children cope.

"This is the language of children," she said. A teen group is available, as needed.

Food discussion scheduled

A panel discussion titled "What is happening to our food?" about potential dangers of genetically engineered foods will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at the Nevada City United Methodist Church, 433 Broad St.

The free discussion features speakers from Cal GE-Free, Community Alliance with Family Farmers, Committee for Sustainable Agriculture, and the Food Democracy Alliance of Nevada County.
