The anticipated 10,000-plus visitors to the 36th annual Constitution Day Parade and Celebration in Nevada City this weekend will be entertained and educated at several daylong events.
These events celebrate the U.S. Constitution and the resulting freedoms granted to Americans, said Cathy Whittlesey, the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce executive manager. Because of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, the events take on even more significance this year.
The chamber is a member of the Nevada City Constitution Day Committee under the City of Nevada City's umbrella. The event is co-sponsored by Nevada Lodge No. 13, F.& A.M.
This weekend's highlights include battle re-enactments and living history at Pioneer Park, back by popular demand after a one-year absence.
For the first time at a Constitution Parade weekend, the well-received Moonlight Swing Living History Big Band will present a free concert Saturday night.
Then there's the 36th annual Constitution Day Parade featuring about 100 entries — including marching bands, floats, antique autos, equestrians and crowd favorites such as the Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and the Marching Presidents of Nevada City, a group that portrays the 43 American presidents.
To help ease the parking crunch, shuttles will run Saturday and Sunday from Rood Administrative Center. The $1 charge per person both days is good all day for unlimited rides.
Saturday's shuttle runs between 9 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. to Washington Street, the National Hotel and Pioneer Park. Sunday's shuttle runs between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. from the Rood Center to the parade route.

1 p.m. and 4 p.m.: Battle re-enactments by the American Civil War Association at Pioneer Park.
2:30 p.m.: Fashion show featuring attire from the Civil War era at Seaman Lodge, Pioneer Park.
7 p.m.-10 p.m.: Moonlight Swing Living History Big Band in a free concert at Commercial and Pine streets.
Sunday
11 a.m.: Battle re-enactments by the American Civil War Association at Pioneer Park.
12:30 p.m.: Nevada County Concert Band performs one-hour concert at lower Broad Street.
1:30 p.m.: Reenactment of the signing of the U.S. Constitution at the corner of Broad and Pine streets.
2 p.m.: 36th annual Constitu-tion Day Parade begins at the top of Broad St. It should last about two hours.
4 p.m. or immediately following parade: Ophir Prison March-ing Kazoo Band presents a mini-concert in front of the National Hotel and then at North Pine and Commercial streets.
9 a.m.-5 p.m.: Craft and food vendors will be at North Pine and Commercial streets
