Leslie Harris had 600 little reasons to thank her disc golf club - the Grass Valley-based Sky Catz - Sunday night.
Harris came from the back of the pack in the final playoff round at the inaugural Sky Catz Spectacular in Penn Valley to take second place, and $600 in prize money, in the women's open division.
As the club's vice president, the City of Grass Valley employee had plenty to do behind the scenes and had planned to sit this one out.
"They said as a local girl, I had to represent," she said.
Harris, who was tied for third going into the final nine holes, played bogey-free golf down the stretch to snag the biggest payday of her two year professional disc golf career.
"There was a lot of pressure. We had a gallery watching (and) there was a lot of money at stake," she said. "It felt a lot like the world('s championship) I competed at two years ago. You get an adrenaline rush. I think that helped me play a little bit better."
Harris picked up disc golf at the prompting of boyfriend and current Sky Catz president Mike Woodman eight years ago.
"It was fun. We practiced and played at a couple courses in Sacramento. Then I played in my first tournament a couple of months later. That's when I started to enjoy the competition," she said.
