Chris Brown wanted more power in his baseball swing before he went to a camp this weekend at Stanford University.
Following in the footsteps of a teammate at Grass Valley's American Legion team, Brown adjusted his stance with immediate results.
"Gary Daley went from a closed stance to an open one, and it gave him more power because he is hitting the ball harder," Brown said. "So I've been re-working my swing lately and switched to a new stance and started working out at the cage, and I just started seeing the ball better."
Apparently so. In four games at a tournament in Reno, Nevada, Brown walloped nine hits in 14 at-bats, driving in seven RBIs in the process.
"We should have won every game there," said Brown, who has split his duties between second base and catching this summer. "We would absolutely clobber one team, then lose the next two. I think maybe it is a problem with belief."
In two days, Brown will join teammates Cody Godfrey and Gary Daley and head to Palo Alto for the Stanford camp, which will run until Sunday.
