Gold Run picks new principal

A new principal has been selected for Gold Run Elementary School in Nevada City, district officials announced Monday.

Kate Wiley, principal of Apple Blossom School in Sebastopol, will take the post on July 1. She replaces Susie Barry, who has served as interim principal for Gold Run, part of the Nevada City School District.

"I am very excited to be able to join the exceptional educational team that exists in Nevada City," Wiley said in a written statement, "and I look forward with great enthusiasm to getting to know the Gold Run staff, students and parents."

Wiley's arrival at Gold Run will be part of a districtwide administrative shuffle on July 1.

Roger Steele, a veteran educator from Tehama County, will begin as superintendent, as interim Superintendent Holly Hermansen becomes assistant superintendent. Barry will continue on as principal for Nevada City Elementary School.
