Letters to the Editor

On Tuesday, Feb. 2, my wife stumbled and fell on the sidewalk outside of IHOP — flat on her face, and bleeding. Numerous people, most older than us, stopped to help, and I thanked them all. But one man stopped his truck, came over, and easily... more...

In one week, looking under couch cushions, behind doors, and inside their cars, Hennessy students and their families collected and counted 123,392 cents for our neighbors in Haiti.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to the people of Nevada County and beyond who have supported SYRCL's Wild & Scenic Film Festival over the last eight years.

I have a proclivity for cynicism, criticism and egotism. Now, I am — uncharacteristically — thanking The Union and the person who found my keys.

I want to personally thank the Good Samaritan driving by the Holiday Lodge on Sunday, Jan. 24, who took the time to look up our number and call to tell us that we had a fire in the chimney of the house. With that call and the quick thinking on the part...

The notion that having a local dispensary for marijuana would be counterproductive to “keeping marijuana out of teen's hands” is utterly ridiculous. The only way a teen, or anyone else, could acquire marijuana from a dispensary is to...

In regard to the new smoking ban in Nevada City, I believe this is being done to punish the local youth. Rest assured that I see through such a simple ploy and have decided to vote with my wallet; there is nothing more enjoyable than having dinner at...

This is a letter of appreciation to you for supporting the fund drive for the libraries. That seems to me to be a very appropriate project for a community newspaper. In fact, my 45-year-old love/hate relationship with The Union has settled comfortably...

Recently, first lady Michelle Obama called on the U.S. Conference of Mayors to help her fight the national scourge of childhood obesity. She noted that one-third of all children are overweight or obese. She proposed healthier school lunch fares,...

When human rights are at risk of being oppressed or denied; follow the money to get at the truth because maybe that is all a conflict between two opposing sides is about. So, try to make every day a Valentine's Day and love each other while you...

This is my response to the author of the letter trying to get KNCO to dump Rush Limbaugh.

I am a part of the silent majority of conservative Americans who love Rush.

I agree with two letters that appeared in The Union Jan. 30. The first letter was titled “Ditch the insults, open your minds.” The second letter was titled, “Return balance to talk radio.”

Grass Valley Elks Lodge continues to encourage our community's youth by managing and issuing awards for program participation. Recently we had our Hoop Shoot and one of our young winners went on to achieve a winning free throw score at district and...
