The Rough and Ready Fire Protection District will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new station at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The new fire station is located at 14506 Rough and Ready Highway in the heart of downtown Rough and Ready.
Since breaking ground Feb. 1, 2011, the fire district was plagued with weather delays lasting months through June 2011. Once the concrete was down at the end of June, and walls started going up early July, construction was completed in six months on the 8,127 square-foot building.
Even though the all-volunteer fire department raised more than $900,000 on its own, the project would not have been able to move forward without the assistance of a FEMA ARRA grant in the amount of $1.1 million.
The department applied to FEMA along with 6,000 other departments across the nation and was one of only 120 departments nationwide to receive a grant.
The building is named the “H. Bruce Davison” building after longtime member Harry “Bruce” Davison.
Davison joined the department in 1968, and has been an active member ever since. He has served as firefighter, rescue captain, assistant chief, and is currently on the board of directors. At the time of this Saturdays' dedication, Davison will have served the Rough and Ready community continuously a total of 43 years, four months and 13 days.
Davison, who lives behind the new station, also donated 20 feet of his property to the fire department so the department would have the needed depth for its new station.
The Rough and Ready Fire Protection department has three officers and 18 firefighters who donate thousands of hours annually to the town as well as neighboring districts and throughout the state with mutual aid. You can follow the department on its website www.rrvfd.com.
