Harry Carlton Cole of Penn Valley, Calif., died unexpectedly at the age of 74 on Jan. 18, 2012, in his home.
Cole was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, a volunteer with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, a black belt in jujitsu, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Masonic Services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Nevada City Masonic Lodge, 108 1/2 Pine St., Nevada City.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Twin Cities Church, 11726 Rough and Ready Highway, Grass Valley. Pastor Ron Thompson will officiate.
Cole was born in Piggot, Ark., on Aug. 31, 1937. He was educated in St Louis, Mo., and entered the U.S. Navy in 1958.
He was discharged in 1962 from Alameda, Calif. He decided to stay in California, where he met his wife of 47 years, Beverly Rhodehouse Cole.
The Coles married in 1965 in Carson City, Nev. They settled in San Jose where their children were active in camping, YMCA, baseball and competitive roller skating.
Cole was a volunteer in all of their activities but found a particular interest in roller skating, eventually competing himself and earning a bronze medal.
Cole was an active volunteer at his church and with the Masons up until his unexpected death. In fact, he earned his black belt at the age of 71.
Cole is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters, Darilee Jeanne and Kristina Yvonne Cole; mother, Jane Earlene Reeves Cole; brothers, Kenneth, Gary and Norman Cole; sister, Karen Cole DeWille; grandson, Dominic Maxwell Cole; granddaughter, Chiara Marina Cole; and numerous loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Clinton Cole; and his adopted daughter, Bernice Grace Cortez.
