James H. Barham of Downieville passed away Jan. 15, 2012, in Grass Valley. He was 77.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Bethel Church, 13010 Highway 49, Grass Valley (1 1/2 miles south of McKnight Way). Lunch is provided following the service.
James was born Nov. 29, 1934, in Taylor, Ark., to Elvin and Jewel Barham. He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology, doctorate in theology and was a real estate broker.
James married Diane Whitehead on May 26, 1984, in Carson City, Nev. He was a retired real estate broker, a sidekick to his wife, Diane, an inn keeper, a minister of 50 years, sharing his love of Jesus Christ, Son of the most High God, and was a member of the Nevada County Board of Realtors.
He enjoyed fishing on the North Yuba River where the Downie River comes together. James loved Downieville and the gold history of it.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Barham of Downieville; daughters, Rebecca Berggren of Downieville and Lisa Toscano of Grass Valley; brother-in-law, David (Karen) Whitehead; sister-in-law, Eleanor White; many nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Jewel Barham; sister, JoAnn Whitten; and brother-in-laws, Don, Bob and Bill Whitehead.
Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
