A pair of Fun Friday Science programs, geared to bring science to life in fun way of learning, will be offered the next two weeks.
Learn using common home items and bring math to life. Weigh the atmosphere with a bike tire or two bottles. Go inside a hot air balloon made with a hair dryer. Build an ABV (air bladder vehicle) using a garbage bag.
Greg Zaller, the instructor, is a credentialed teacher with degrees in biology, agriculture, and a master's degree in science teaching.
This is process learning, Zaller wrote in an e-mail, which is different from content learning because it emphasizes doing as a path to understanding. The coming new California Common Core Content Standards for Mathematics in 2013 require process learning and our schools will need our understanding and support during this exciting transition, Zaller wrote.
Take one or both classes, which are sponsored by Creative Learning Adventures.
Families, teachers and individuals of any age are welcome to attend this free event. Bring some garbage bags, scissors and tape to share, or just yourself .
The first class meets 6:30 p.m. Friday at Madelyn Helling Library, and again on Feb. 3. For more information or to register go to www.coactivelearning.org. Drop-ins are welcome.
