The United Way of Nevada County is seeking volunteers who represent a cross section of our county to serve on their Board of Directors. The ideal candidates would have local business, county/state government or law experience. Board members participate in special committees and fundraising events in addition to management meetings.

A few good folks with skills in either carpentry, electrical, or plumbing are needed to help at the St. Josephs' Cultural Center, once or twice a week to help with various restoration projects. Must have own tools. Days and time commitment are flexible. The structure was built in 1866 and is still used today used by many. Your fix-it skills will help keep the Hall available for community use for years to come.

This organization assists families in crisis and domestic violence victims to increase self-reliance and improve quality of life by helping them rebuild their lives. There are a number of specific volunteer opportunities available to help support this valuable program in our community. Homeless shelter treasurer
Hospitality House Shelter for the Homeless relies heavily on the dedicated involvement of volunteers to succeed in its mission of caring for those in our community in need. Currently, a person is needed to serve as treasurer. If you have experience with budgets and spreadsheets and can attend monthly meetings, please consider assisting this organization.
Help with Positive Tickets program
Being a part of the Positive Tickets program is a perfect opportunity for a self starter community minded volunteer who likes talking with people and prefers a flexible schedule. Volunteers will check in with local stores and keep track of their participation in a positive tickets program in Nevada City. Call RSVP for more information.
Adult Learners need your help
Partners in English Language Learning has two-day tutor training scheduled for every six months. Dates for the next training are Feb. 11 and Feb. 18.
It is not necessary to have teaching or bilingual skills. Volunteer tutors meet with an adult learner one to two hours per week and should plan to commit to at least a year of tutoring once matched with a learner. This is a rewarding opportunity and one which will have a lasting impact on someone's life.
Friendly visitors needed
Volunteers are needed for one to two hours once a week to visit seniors in our community who have become isolated due to the loss of a loved one or because they no longer drive. A short social visit helps keep our Nevada County neighbors connected to the community and living independently in their own home. Currently there are seniors that are requesting a visitor in Alta Sierra, Brunswick area and Nevada City. Please consider this rewarding opportunity.
Are you a thrift shop enthusiast?
Busy Nevada City thrift shop is looking for volunteers to help with cashiering, pricing and putting out items. Shift length is two to four hours, any day from Monday through Saturday.
Home-delivered meals driver
Do you enjoy driving the scenic foothills? Volunteers are needed once a week or on a substitute basis to deliver noontime meals to homebound seniors. This is a great way to help your Nevada County neighbors and provide a wonderful and much needed service. This is a great activity for couples or friends to do together.
Ceramics help needed at local convalescent hospital
Do you have a few hours of free time on Tuesdays to help paint ceramics projects with seniors? Friendly, helpful folks are needed for two to three hours once a week. If you can help, the senior residents would love to see your smiling face!
Help create math and science programs for young learners
Children are naturally scientists and very curious about how their world works. Supporting and directing their simple explorations in the early grades can be, and should be, just as rewarding for their guides and is as easy as baking a cake.
If you have a background in education or even just a caring interest in supporting inquisitive learning in our schools we encourage you to attend a planning meeting to brainstorm how to form a teacher volunteer support network for science and math in the early grades.
