A North Columbia man allegedly expressed his displeasure over being ejected from a North San Juan bar by firing off multiple rounds of body-piercing armor from an assault rifle.
James Roland Hawk, 37, was at the Brass Rail at about 11 p.m. Sunday when he was removed for being disorderly and overly intoxicated, said Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal.
“He went outside and fired between 10 and 45 rounds from a high-powered rifle, some of which were armor-piercing,” Royal said. “He then jumped in his vehicle and fled.”
Hawk was on probation with a condition of no firearms, Royal noted.
Sheriff's deputies were en route to Hawk's residence in the 15000 block of Grizzly Hill Road when they found his pickup truck rolled in the middle of the road, Royal said. Hawk, who was standing outside his vehicle, saw the deputies and fled on foot.
Hawk eventually returned and was arrested without further incident.
Deputies searched his truck and allegedly found an AK-47, three empty 30-round magazines, one six-round magazine, two fixed-blade knives, military-style body armor, a police scanner, and a variety of fireworks.
Hawk was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of an assault weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, driving under the influence and violating probation. He was being held in county jail without bail.
