Nevada Union girls' volleyball finished fifth in the 36-team tournament in the High Sierra Tournament at Reno this past weekend.
The Lady Miners defeated Woodcreek, Madera South, Reno, Roseville, Madera and Clovis East before succumbing to Del Oro Saturday night.
Marnie McDowell led NU with 44 kills in the tournament, followed by Jenna Britton and Tessa Butterfield with 21and Leila Whaley with 18.
Butterfield also had 14 service aces, followed by Jenna Bell's 14 and Madison Heppe's 11.
Heppe had 65 digs. She also led the way with 63 serve receptions and only one error.
As a team, the Miners had 66 service aces to their opponents' 11.
Cross Country
Bear River's Breanne Mitchell won her second race in as many events this season when she finished first in a varsity girls race at Reno Friday.
Mitchell had a time of 16:49 on the nearly 2.5 mile course at the Fourth Annual Nevada/ Jim Vanden Heuvel Twilight Cross Country Classic.
The senior was followed by teammates Seaera Moe, ninth place; Chelsea Andrews, 21st place; Harla Moe, 27th place; and Elizabeht Boyer 41st place.
Bruin Jordan Halleib finished 30th in the varsity boys race with a time of 16:08 while teammate Eric LaPlant took 36th place with a time of 16:42.
Sophomore Alex Coffman captured second place in the junior varsity boys race with a 16:51 time. Freshman Gerry Williams placed 11th in the same race.
Freshman Sierra Mitchell took 25th in the junior varsity girls race.
