Betty Jean Tinsley died Aug. 29.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City, CA 95959; remembrances may be sent there.
Internment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park and Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA 95628.
She was born Dec. 19, 1927, to Albert and Annie Sullivan in Grass Valley, their youngest child.
She was a happy child, the apple of her father's eye and very close to her mother. She attended Grass Valley schools, graduating from Grass Valley High School in 1946.
She married the love of her life, John “Jack” Tinsley, in 1947.
Mr. Tinsley worked in construction, and the couple followed construction projects in their trailer throughout the West until he retired and they settled down in Orangevale, Calif.
Mrs. Tinsley continued as a homemaker and raised pedigreed Pekingese puppies as both a hobby and for income.
After her husband died in 1988, she returned to Grass Valley, purchasing a mobile home and later moving to the Nevada Meadows apartments, where she lived for many years before moving to the Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital a year ago.
Mrs. Tinsley was a people person, outgoing and friendly to everyone and happiest when she was with family and friends. She was devoted to them, always remembering birthdays and holidays with a card, and when ill fortune struck, with kind words and prayers.
She is survived by nieces Judith Johnston, Barbara Parks, Bonnie Fifer, Linda Niezwaag, Jane Sullivan, Patricia Sloan and Florence Lewis; and nephews Dennis Dunnett, Donald Minarich, Owen Sullivan, Larry Sullivan and Steve Sullivan. They will treasure the memory of their Aunt Betty.
Mrs. Tinsley had no children. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; sisters, Grace Dunnett, Dorothy Hale, Mildred McConnell; brothers, Arnold Sullivan, George Sullivan, Reginald Sullivan; and nephew, Robert Minarich, and niece, Nadine Mitchell.
