Jazz and blues soloists Tanya Scarlett and June Williams combined their celebrated talents recently. Their new ‘duo' show is called Scarlett June — and they packed the patio at Kane's last Sunday evening. The large patio proved the perfect setting for their sophisticated renditions of “Georgia on my Mind,” “My Funny Valentine,” “Better Straighten Up.” and many other compelling classics, performed with polish and pizzazz.
Accompanied by Ahaguna G. Sun on drums and Michael Warren on bass, “They put on a San Francisco-style dinner show,” says owner/super-chef John Kane. “It was a sell-out. The audience was captivated from beginning to end. In fact, I'm considering offering more dinner shows on a regular basis.”
KVMR's “A Swinging Affair” show host, Ron Avanzino called Scarlett June, “… a powerful, musical force. Their style is reminiscent of Keely Smith and Carmen McRae, especially since June Williams sings and plays keyboard too. Together, they give emotive lyrics a whole, new life.” The humorous banter between Scarlett and Williams is entertaining as well. “Music is a passion we've shared for many years – and performing together is a new beginning for us both,” Tanya Scarlett adds. “It's as if we're rediscovering music together, and performing live again is such a trip.” With a fine selection of food and wine, a full-service bar and a relaxed, shady setting, the Kane's patio has proved a stylish, romantic setting for such outstanding entertainment.
Scarlett June perform again at Kane's this Sunday. Reservations can be made by phoning (530) 273-8111.
