Chester, the great horned owl, will appear today at the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival in Nevada City.
Chester and other critters who act as educational ambassadors for Penn Valley-based Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release are nonreleasable birds that are specially trained to work with the public.
To see the birds at this year's film festival, see their schedule below.
Wildlife Rehab and Release is a small, 100-percent volunteer organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of native wildlife. Our trained volunteers are licensed by the California Department of Fish and Game and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to care for and release native wildlife.
In 2009, we assisted more than 240 animals including as red-tail hawks, bluebirds, coyotes, great horned owls, bats, deer and foxes. We also offer classes, lectures and educational wildlife presentations to local schools and community organizations.
We offer our services free of charge to the counties of Nevada, and parts of Placer, Sutter, Yuba, Butte, and Yolo. To learn more, visit www.cawildlife911.org.
